Hong Kong never looked so good and probably has never been so clean. The bustling metropolis has made some real efforts since the SARS outbreak in the spring of 2003. The streets, especially on HK Island, are litter free and almost spotless.
There is a HKD1,500 fine for littering, spitting, etc. that is well advertised. And regular cleaning crews at the city's "wet" outdoor food markets. Of course, the bright neon lights at night are still as attractive as ever. |
| | On Hong Kong Island, many residential apartments are built on the sides of the hills/mountains so elevated escalators are constructed to access them. Think this is one of the unique features to life in HK. The mid levels featured in the picture are in Central HK, nearby artsy Soho, the Lan Kwai Fang bar district, and the many clothing and trinket bazarrs such as along Wing Kut Street. |

| | The street scenes in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon look very much the same. An inexpensive way to view city life is via the cable trolley buses, get an upper section seat for the best views. |
