  • This house contains some original furnishings and memorabilia from Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882). And the garden is much as it used to be in his day.

There are guided tours of the house itself, and self-guided tours of the gardens.

  • This 411-acre reservation has beautiful hiking trails (even more picturesque in autumn).

There is a replica of Henry David Thoreau's hut. The area itself is open for swimming, hiking, picnicking, and fishing.

    A very tranquil place.

  • In Concord, a stone's throw away from Orchard House and Emerson's home, is Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where authors such as Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne are buried.

Cemeteries can be beautiful places, and in autumn, with the colorful leaves, sloping hills, and the peace and quiet here, it's a must see!

Signs point the way to the resting places of these authors.

  • The site of the first effective armed resistance by Americans to the British. The bridge itself is actually a replica of a replica.

The Minute Man statue is nearby, along with a mass grave of British soldiers, on which an inscription reads "They came 3000 miles and died to keep the past upon its throne".

It's a beautiful walk past the bridge and a lovely path leading up to it.

This area is practically in the backyard of the Old Manse.
