"The most beautiful place in the world..." Highland by Voyageuse30

Dunnottar Castle is near the small town of Stonehaven in Scotland. I haven't seen any other place that matches it for beauty. So picturesque.
I know that "Hamlet", a movie starring Mel Gibson, was filmed here, and maybe there are some others as well. Can't say I blame movie directors for choosing this site as a backdrop. I could stay here for hours on end. I've been here I think about 5 times and I haven't tired of it.
Aren't these guys a cuddly bunch? They're all over Highland Scotland. My friends and I called them Muppet Cows, but I think they're actually called Highland Cattle!
This is Urquhart Castle, apparent base for many sightings of the infamous Loch Ness monster. I never did see it myself, but I'm too sceptical to see any mythical creatures in my lifetime, I guess.
- Pros:Absolutely gorgeous landscape, rugged beauty, wonderful people
- Cons:None

It can be very sparsely populated in the Highlands, and you may drive for a very long time without seeing any villages... more travel advice
