Key West isn't everyone's dream destination...but it is an interesting place to visit and can offer a number of activities outside of the typical drunk-fest that dominates Duval Street.
The sunsets are spectacular, there's a wistful feel of Old Cuba (with some Bahamas mixed in) in the residential area, and a number of sites to see such as the Key West Cemetery, the Audubon House, Hemingway's Home, the Key West Lighthouse, and numerous other activities.
The architecture is charming and you can appreciate it up close and personal by motoring around on a rental bicycle or moped.
Last time I was here, I noticed how there was a line of people waiting to get a photo of the "Southernmost Point" in the continental USA...the marker indicates that Cuba is only 90 miles away...At first I was annoyed to have to wait in a line to get this shot (especially as I have it already from past visits) but I observed how everyone seemed to treat each other so nicely, helping out with photos and sharing advice and stories...I saw people from all over the world speaking to each other in the universal language of "Friendly".
I don't know why that surprised me - but it was a nice surprise.
