I stayed here on my last trip to the Keys and it was just what I had in mind for a perfectly relaxing weekend. There are a total of 22 units (though it seems much smaller and is very cozy) in five villa-like buildings and bayfront cottages. I had a great view of the sunset from my 2nd floor window. It’s even better to hang out in one of the hammocks on their little beach which incidentally, is right outside the bungalow doors.
Unique Qualities: Kayaks are available and there’s also a big beachside barbecue pit for those who just want to stay on property. I never even ventured to the pool but it looked charming and is shaded by lush, tropical foliage.
The managers (Gretchen and Jim) are super friendly and helpful and chock full of the kind of information only locals can provide.
I liked La Jolla because it lacks pretention and isn’t fussy, which is how I regard the Keys in general. Everyone is very environmentally-minded and the vibe is relaxed and convivial.
I’ll stay here again (especially since repeat visitors get a discount!).
Rates run as low as $89 and as high as $299 per night, depending on the room and the season.
