Every year, usually during the first two weeks in March, bikers from everywhere descend upon Florida with a purpose.

I still haven't quite figured out just what that purpose is, but it seems to be posing, playing, purchasing and probably most importantly - fellowshipping.

Yes, easy riders from everywhere congregate in Daytona once a year - to exchange information and passions on motorcycle riding, to score the best deals on bikes and bike-related gear, and to watch and be watched by all.

This phenomenon is called "Bike Week", and it makes for some of the strangest, most hilarious people-watching ever. It's a mecca for exhibitionists, VietNam veterans, hippies who never left the 70s, yuppies who are interested in the latest motorized products, and just people looking to have a good time in a place known for its biker-friendly atmosphere.

It's a culture unto itself...a little bit like Mardi Gras, but without the beads and dubloons. You can either participate in it, or remain an innocent bystander.

Either way, it's something to behold and is worth seeing at least once in your life.
