You can get to Petra from Amman (Jordan) or by crossing the southern border of Eilat ( Israel) into Aqaba. I recommend hiring a taxi to take you to Petra. From the Aqaba border area, we paid $50 USD to get there. The drive takes you past the famous wadis where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed and the backdrop of rugged mountains is breathtaking. The drive is about 2 hours. Plan on spending minimum 1 overnight in Petra, since to fully appreciate the park, you need to spend at least four hours, give or take. Most people linger there all day, which is great to do if you have the time.
