Most oenephiles regard France as the world's wine-making capital, and I won't dispute this. But critics and fans alike have come a long way from once denouncing this fledgling industry to acknowledging its first class, competitive status.
A visit to California's Wine Country is edifying, educational, and yes, I'm proud to say that some of the world's most celebrated wines today come from California. |

The best way to see Napa, Sonoma and the surrounding Valley area (in my opinion) is to plan a minimum of 2 days for sightseeing and all around relaxing. For those who live in Northern California, Wine Country often means a nice 3 day weekend getaway to the countryside. |
For the rest of the world, a visit to Napa and Sonoma is usually best combined with a trip to a major anchor like San Fransisco. In fact from San Fransisco, you can plan just a day trip - but really, you should try one of the many rustic and charming bed & breakfasts in Napa or Sonoma, and stay there overnight.
You never know...all that wine tasting might leave you a bit lighter on your feet at the end of the day - that is, if you've done it right! | | |

catalysta Sat Jan 14, 2006 16:01 UTC I LOVED V. Sattui Winery, your tips brought back very fond memories! Too funny about the B&B, but it looks like a bargain price - maybe that's why, huh?...W | AKtravelers Wed Dec 14, 2005 01:30 UTC While the experts claim that Californian wines have 'arrived', to be sure, shouldn't we taste for ourselves the French, Australian, Chilean, Italian, Spanish, Oregonian, etc. We will! |
