"Capital of Papua New Guinea (PNG)" Port Moresby by jadedmuse

No, this isn't the best representation of the thriving metropolis of Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea.
But it is the only thing that captured my interest on our way out of the city to catch a flight into the Southern Highlands....
I only spent one night in Port Moresby so there's not much I can say about it other than to observe that the TraveLodge hotel where we ate dinner (and stayed the night) served up the best baramundi fish dinner I've ever had in my life.....
....and I can go one step further and recall that the service was absolutely impeccable. I kept thinking to myself, "But wait - this is a TraveLodge!!"
I remember how deferential our waiter was...he was probably a bit shocked to see two young women dining alone, obviously not on business but whatever in the world were they doing there.....he was attentive without being overbearing, and at the end of the meal when I complimented him on the dish, we were not sure if he was going to cry! He was so pleased with the compliment that you would have thought he prepared the meal himself back there in the kitchen....it gave us such a laugh - and we left him a nice tip too....but I guess my point is that I have a very nice, sweet memory of the TraveLodge in Port Moresby, and that's about it.
It was just our stepping stone to other parts unknown....(to us, at least!)

That is an excellent opening picture to go along with your interesting little tale of the Travelodge! Mmm, Barrimundi is one of my favourite dishes too! Have not had a taste of one in over 20 years now!
That picture may not be the best representation, but it's a good one.
Those huts on stilts would go for $300 a night in Noumea, Bora Bora or the Maldives;-]
