a.k.a. Mt. Bental and the Golan Heights (Israel)

This is a place where the destination is rivaled only by the journey to reach it.

Known to Syrians as Ayn Ziwan and to the Israelis as Mt. Bental, this controversial area is part of the territory claimed by Israel since 1967 - which is when the War of 1967 was initiated against Israel by Syria, Jordan and Egypt.

I consider it a must-visit for anyone in the Galilee and Golan Heights area (the latter of which is how the Israelis define it today).

So What's the Real Deal?

Reason it's still listed under Syria instead of under Israel is because the the VT powers-that-be are following the UN resolution that refuses to recognize a territory considered to be under military occupation as the result of a war victory.

So what we have is yet another Middle East conundrum: Israel considers the Golan Heights to be annexed, but the U.N. says it is military-occupied territory.

Bottom Line:

Do NOT let any of the above prevent you from exploring this fantastic area!

The truth is, there is more to the name:It means in the clouds, and it points to UN Koffi Annan, and what coincidence his first name in hebrew means:"My monkey".So the cloud Cafe"Koffe Anan" is also the "monkey in the cloud", how suitable it says it all.

I've never been here! BTW, did you realize that Cafe Annan is a pun? It's not just Cloud Cafe. It's Koffi Annan.
