Edinburgh and Lothians | Edinburgh from Cockenzie beach |
I live just south of Edinburgh now. The city is easily accesible from my home, takes about 20 mins on a good day and outside rush hour.
Edinburgh is a city of levels..... the Old town, the New town, the Castle is easily seen from nearly everywhere in Edinburgh. The best thing for you to do is to come in August and see the festival which lasts for 3 weeks. The weather is not too bad (above freezing anyway) and the place comes alive with all the visitors and the Fringe. Live shows and comedy acts make it a good time of year. You can get a bit overwhelmed with tartan, shortbread, heather, bagpies and the sometimes incomprehensible accent, but vistors really enjoy making inroads into my stocks (or is it hubby's) of whisky. Can't stand the stuff myself, but you are welcome to try what we have in the house. |

| | Cockenzie Beach What I really love is the isolation and emptiness of this beach..... in summer, we take the dogs for very long walks and birdwatching trips which last all day, pub lunches, long lazy drives home in the evenings, it stays light until 11 pm on the longest day....
The birdlife is great although it had become rather wary of rampaging poodles who stop at nothing *even diving into rock pools* to get at them. This doesn't bode well with my conservation efforts, but at least they don't seem to catch any. The hazards are dealing with Molly when she has just had a light snack off a dead crab and wrestling with two sopping wet dogs with sand in their eyes and up their bum trying to get them a bit drier and into the dog cage..... |
| | Rainy Edinburgh in the evening We try to go out for a meal to a new restaurant each month.... It helps to cement the marriage and avoid an axe murder.
This was in a part of the new town on a rainy evening.... quite romantic really and by the time I had finished two glasses of wine I was feeling quite mellow. The restaurant was not terribly good, but looked nice from the outside. Besides which I had never had Tapas before, so worth the trip if nothing else. |
