Worst room I ever slept in! and other London, United Kingdom Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

This was a budget hotel that was run on a shoe string charging you 40 euros a night per person. The room was basic, and I mean that in every sense of the word. The one window that opened out on to a small alleyway had a dirty net curtain pinned up with thumbtacks. A dangerous shower with a broken soap dish that cut my elbow and Roy's thumb. I think that Miriam got away unscathed. A fridge in the room that was connected to electrics into which water dripped from the rooms above. Tea and coffee were provided, matching cups??? nope I don't think so! . No bog roll holder and the cheapest soap and shampoo provided.

The only good thing about this room was the fact that the linen was clean and it was as clean as could be expected. The continental breakfast was cereals, toast, butter and jam and pots of tea. I didn't spot any yoghurt!

Unique Qualities: Don't be fooled by the brochure and write up. It is nothing like you expect. However, it was cheap and we only stayed one night. It was also convenient for King's Cross Station and the Underground.

I took a single room, funnily enough Bernishand and Camcorderman declined to share with me (could it have been the snoring that put them off?) which was an adequate size, i.e. not the broom cupboard, clean well appointed ensuite shower and all the usual stuff like TV, phone, room service, tea and coffee making facilities.... etc etc.

Cost was ?49.00 a night for me, breakfast was ?12.50 which I declined, you can get a much better and cheaper meal in a small cafe along the street.

I booked the hotel using British Hotel Reservation Centre which is pretty good at finding you something close to what you want.

Unique Qualities: Mercifully, the windows actually OPENED in this hotel, so that you could hear the sounds of London traffic and reduce the condensation in the room after a shower. I didn't have a great view, just a small balcony which, after a night on the town I decided was foolish to explore.

This is a chain of hotels, good standard and much cheaper than £100 a night. You can find a room for as little as £45 which can sleep three.

Book well in advance and try the King's Cross one. If they haven't any rooms, they suggest a hotel nearby.

You might also consider a London Sight Seeing Pass which gives you free entry to 56 attractions for one price.
