Las Vegas Friends

by BreezyJones - last update: Jul 30, 2008

Fun, fun, fun

nightline in Vegas
Let me know if there is anything I can do, or any info you need to make your trip here fun.

One of the best places in las vegas to go is The Cellar 3601 W. Sahara if you like blues and jazz. On Sunday nights they have open mic comedy acts. It's all free.

I like to meet up with some of the people that come here and have a drink or dinner or something. This is such a popular place to come to I can meet lots of new friends from all over the world. So if your headed this way, e-maidden name="c_5.px.s" value="h7MM+UQ4lVpyc9+YK5+qZA"><input type=hidden name="c_5.po.s" value="59o7f7/OI0/XdysGd6MY1Q"><tr><td colspan=3 class="f_c"><table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=4><tr><td class="f_c" style="width:30%;vertical-align:top; margin-left:10px;margin-right:10px" nowrap>Chapter 6 Title:</td><td class="f_c" valign=top colspan=2 align=left><input type=text name="c_6.pt" size=60 maxlength=50>

Budget ideas for you trip

There are many deals for shows. ask a taxi driver for the books they keep in their cab and make sure you get some of the coupon books at the hotel you are staying at. You can get free play on the tables and show discounts. If you have time to go through a timeshare sales rap for an hour or 2, they will give you lots of stuff free. Some even give you $100 and some show tickets just to listen to them talk for an hour.

Also, the food on Fremont is really cheap. If you can eat from like 11 pm until 7 am, you can get breakfast for about $1.50 and the prime rib dinners are about $6.95 shrimp cocktails for 99 cents. Also go to the westward ho next to Stardust for footlong hotdogs $1.49. The smaller places have the best food deals if you are on a budget and they are pretty good too.

Best meal deal for dirt cheap....The Klondike. At the very end of the strip. Across from Mandalay Bay. It has spaghetti dinner for $2.49, Prime Rib for $4.99, graveyard specials for 99 cents and a really good bbq rib deal. It's on of the oldest places still around so it's kind of a landmark also. It has 10 cent roulette too!!!!

I found a site I spent a long time in. This guy gives you so many ideas and all the hints and tips you could want. Check it out.

I'm trying to get as much info as I can on here for you, so it's going to take me some time, so check back from time to time and see what I've got for you. Good luck and have fun.
You may want to check my Las Vegas pages to give you some more ideas.

Living life in Las Vegas

We have some wonderful areas out here in Vegas. There is Summerlin and Green Valley and the Lone Mountain areas and the Lakes. We have multi million dollar homes out here. What people think of Vegas is what they see right around the strip and the Fremont. It's a little scarey in those neighborhoods, but we live like any one else. Unless you work for a casino, we rarely go on the strip unless we have company in from out of town. We have jobs like anyone else and work, go to school and go home and have dinner, we go out for dinner, we go to the movies and sleep in our beds like anyone else. We have our favorite watering holes, favorite grocery stores, and there is plenty of programs for kids....e.g. sports, skateboard parks, bowling, ice skating rinks and on top of it if you like to ski, there is a mountain 45 minutes from here. You can be getting a tan in the morning and wearing ski boots in the afternoon. And there is Lake Mead about 45 minutes the other way. Boating, fishing, all your water sports. There's horseback riding, state parks and you can be out of town in an hour and feel like your a million miles away.I live in a 3 bedroom house with 2 roommates and 3 dogs. We have a nice yard and whatever your yard looks like depends totally upon you. There are many areas that have associations for the homeowners and your neighbors can't have broken down cars and messy yards or they get fined.

Vegas is a wonderful place, but it's like anywhere else in good ole USA...it has it's good points and it's bad points....GOOD POINT: 24 hour bars...yyyeeehhhaaa If you can't sleep at 4 a.m. go to the bar for a couple hours. BAD POINT: We have 6,000 people moving here a month, so there is alot of traffic, but if you live and work on the outer parts of town, you won't have to deal with it as much. So pack your truck and get out here. How'd I do ddevito....did I miss anything? (See, I kept you here too ddevito...heeheehee)
Lake Mead Sunset
Keystone Cops

since you asked.......

Now these are my opinions, so other people may see things different so here goes:

It's a big city, but we don't have sky scrapers or anything. The hotels are big, but once your away from the strip, it's not an issue.

The scarey unknowns? Where isn't there scarey unknowns the way this country is being run these days.

Alot of the people here work with the public, you'll see they have lots of patience and are very laid back. See, we don't have to cram everything into a 3 day trip since we live here. But there are some that could use a little course in anger management....(which they do offer here, by the way)
Yes, when it's HOT it's HOT. You have to have air in your car or you will bake. If you drive with your windows down when it's hot, it's like being in a steam room. You will find that most people don't go anywhere without a bottle or two of water. Your hands will burn to a crisp on your steering wheel if you don't have a cover on it. In my opinion, I would NEVER even think of leather seats.

WATER SHORTAGE:
I know we can't wash our cars in our driveways and the hotels have had to cut down on their misters and places that had fountains now have renovated to a more desert landscaping. But yes, there is a problem with the water shortage, and if we run out, then I'll just move. Sounds weird though, since Hoover Dam is right down the street and it looks pretty full to me. hahaha

The cops......hmmmm, well, they are probably like anywhere else. You got your good cops and your basic buttheads. They have to be patient, look at what they have to deal with on a daily basis......This is party town USA where the fun never stops and either does the crime. Tons of drunk driving and people getting run over by cars cuz they are too stupid to cross at the light.

Most people out here do try to help and I have found some really good friends. If you drink, most likely you will find a local watering hole where all the locals in your area go and by the end of the week, you will know all their names and they will know yours.
Just like Cheers. But if you should get a dui, call John Watkins....best DUI lawyer in town. Just ask any cop.
Personally I have a cop that I date now and then, so I try to keep my "get out of jail free" card current....heeheehee

Holidays are just like any other day out here. Most people work them and this year for Christmas we actually got snow for the first time in years. But I have been here for years and my family has been out here since the 60's so I have been coming out here all my life and It still doesn't feel like Christmas at Christmas time to me.

Handicapped Accessibility
Vegas is a service-oriented town dedicated to making vacations comfortable and enjoyable for everyone regardless of their physical abilities. We've put together some helpful tips and information on getting around the city for handicapped visitors.

Hotels

All Vegas hotels are handicapped accessible. Room designs and special services vary among hotels. Talk to the hotel concierge for any special requests or needs. Many hotel pools have lifts available to assist handicapped guests. Ask the hotel reservations agent when booking a room.

Transportation

There are a number of companies in Vegas that offer transportation for handicapped visitors and people in wheelchairs:

AKA Limousine Service: (702) 257-7433
Golden Years Airport Shuttle: (702) 360-6160
Las Vegas Transportation: (702) 248-2631
Nevada Medi-Car: (702) 382-5820
Showtime Shuttle: (702) 261-6100
Shows

All Vegas shows offer seating for handicapped patrons. Many showrooms have assistive listening devices for hearing impaired customers. Notify the hotel box office prior to the show for any special requests.

Attractions

Many Vegas attractions are accessible for handicapped customers, however there are limitations (for example warning for patrons with heart conditions) on some attractions and rides. Contact the hotel where the attraction is located to find out the specifics.

Dining

All Vegas restaurants are accessible. Talk to the maitre'd for any special seating requests you might have or just ask about any concerns when you call to make reservations. Keep in mind that most restaurants located in hotels do not have restrooms located in the restaurant -- they are located outside in the casino. Casino restrooms are handicapped accessible.

Gaming

Many hotels have handicapped accessible slot machines and table games. Some offer wheelchair access to craps tables. Several bingo halls have braille bingo cards or large-print cards. Sign language interpreters are available at some hotels that offer gaming lessons. Call the hotel for details.
