  • I always try to stay at The Venetian when I'm in Las Vegas. This is an excellent hotel and it has the largest standard rooms on the Strip. Even the basic rooms contain a bedroom and large, step-down living room along with a huge bathroom. The rooms feel quite big and luxurious, and the attractive blue and yellow bedding and decor really adds to their appeal.

There are a number of other things that are great about the Venetian. The shopping and dining are both excellent. Lutece is very elegant, Pinot Brasserie has exceptional cuisine and Grand Lux Cafe is a great place for casual dining. The Venetian also serves gelato (I make repeat trips for the gelato during my stays). The lower level has a large array of stores for shopping, including BCBG, Banana Republic, Movado and Lladro. There is also a large Sephora store at The Venetian.

The canal that runs though The Venetian is quite charming, and if you're at the hotel with a significant other, it's fun to take a ride on the gondolas. Otherwise, you can stand near the canals and listen to the gondoliers sing as they sail by.

I highly recommend The Venetian to anyone traveling to Las Vegas!

  • The Paris Hotel & Casino is an excellent hotel, featuring elegant guest rooms, good prices and a wonderful location on the Strip. If you don't want to pay lots of money to stay at Bellagio or The Venetian but are still looking for a very nice, central hotel.... I would highly recommend Paris.

The hotel has a French theme (obviously) and the rooms are decorated in rich blue and gold colors. The gaming floor is very attractive and replicates a Parisian park. The mini Eiffel Tower, very prominant on the outside of the hotel, extends into the casino and you can take a ride to the top from the casino floor. There are a number of excellent restaurants at Paris, as well as a good shopping area.

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino: An Oasis on the Strip: Mandalay Bay   Check Rates

  • Mandalay Bay is an elegant resort located at the far south end of the Strip. It is considered one of the better hotels in Las Vegas and its pool is always mentioned as being the best in town. While it's location can sometimes make you feel a little far away from the rest of the Strip, there are really no other downsides to staying at Mandalay Bay.

The rooms at Mandalay Bay are large and decorated in an upscale, tropical motif. The bathrooms are enormous and feature separate bathtubs and showers.

The resort has a number of shops and restaurants in addition to the large gaming space. Border Grill features excellent Mexican food and House of Blues serves their famous Gospel Brunch every Sunday.

You can see concerts at House of Blues or at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Room service is reasonably priced (less expensive than the restaurants, I thought!) and arrives quickly.

Unique Qualities: One of the most unique and memorable parts of Mandalay Bay is the great pool area. There are actually 4 or 5 different pool areas, all linked together. The largest is the Beach-- a huge pool/wave pool that is surrounded by real sand. There is also a lazy river, where you can float along on a mat (cost: $15). There are two smaller pool areas (that tend to have more shade for hot days) and a private, adults-only pool called Moorea. Moorea is very hip and trendy.. it's filled with young, beautiful people and costs $10 for ladies and $30 for men (and bikini tops are optional here).

The pools open at 8:30am and you'll need to stake out a place around that time. Moorea's lounge chairs get snapped up instantly, and the Beach is nearly as popular.

Your tour through Las Vegas was great. I remember the first time I visited the Forum Shops; I was totally dazzled and couldn't find my way out for hours.
