I'm not a huge fan of buffets, but when you're in Vegas, you sort of feel obligated to go to one. If you have this same urge, there's one buffet that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

The Rio Hotel & Casino's World Buffet is an enormous spread of food, encompassing cuisine from around the world. Where else can you pile Chinese food, pasta, a cheeseburger and a bean burrito onto your plate at the same time? The selection here is quite large. No matter what you're in the mood for, you'll find it here. The food is quite fresh. Be sure to save room for dessert: there is a large variety of cakes, pies, brownies, etc...

The line for the World Buffet can get really long. You'll probably have to wait for a while.

    Favorite Dish: Hours:

    7am-10pm Monday - Friday
    7:30am-10pm Saturday - Sunday

    Prices:

    Breakfast $9.99 plus tax
    Lunch $11.99 plus tax
    Dinner $16.99 plus tax
Saturday & Sunday Champagne Brunch $16.99 plus tax

The Eiffel Tower Restaurant, located at the Paris Hotel & Casino on the strip is an excellent place to dine on a special occasion. This is truly a lovely restaurant, set high in the Eiffel Tower. As you dine, you'll have a spectacular view of the dancing fountain across the street at The Bellagio and the lights of the strip.

The chef at Eiffel Tower Restaurant is J. Joho (also the chef at Chicago's Everest and Brasserie Jo) and the food is definitely French. It's very delicious and also quite expensive, but if you have a special evening planned, this is a great place!

Favorite Dish: The lamb is excellent here, and if you're a fan of foie gras, there's no better place in Las Vegas to order it. The seafood is wonderful. Splurge on the lobster! The restaurant also has great souffles and an extensive wine list. Bon appetit!

  • Restaurant Name: Grand Lux Cafe

Grand Lux Cafe, located in The Venetian on the strip, is a popular choice for casual dining in Las Vegas. Located near the gaming floor and central elevators in the hotel, the cafe is always crowded. There is a large bar area right at the entrance where you can wait for a table, watch sports on television or enjoy a cocktail with friends.

Grand Lux Cafe is owned by the same people who own and operate The Cheesecake Factory. If you've ever been to The Cheesecake Factory, you can expect more of the same at Grand Lux Cafe: an enormous menu with perhaps too many options and huge portion sizes. It's basic American food: sandwiches, salads, steaks, burgers, chicken, pizza, etc... The restaurant also has a large dessert menu.

Grand Lux Cafe is open 24 hours a day. A perfect spot to satisfy those late-night munchies!

The prices here tend to be a little high for such standard fare (although most dining in Las Vegas tends to be expensive, contrary to popular belief). I find that an entree will easily feed two people, however.

  • Restaurant Name: Terrazza

Terrazza is located in Caesar's Palace, right on The Strip. The restaurant serves primarily Italian food and is an elegant, upscale place to dine. You'll want to make reservations and dress to impress.

Terrazza offers great views of the Garden of the Gods pool. You can eat indoors or dine alfresco on a terrace adjacent to the pool area.

Favorite Dish: The menu items include antipasti, seafood, freshly baked pizza, pasta and salads. I particularly recommend the Caesar salad, pizzas and mushroom ravioli. My friends were impressed with the lamb, veal chops, and steak.

    Border Grill: Border Grill rocks!!

  • Restaurant Name: Border Grill

Border Grill has GREAT food! While we were staying at Mandalay Bay we chose to eat here mainly because I'd heard good things about it and there wasn't a huge line outside, like most of the other restaurants. We had such a great experience that I'll return to eat there again the next time I'm in Las Vegas!

The restaurant has two levels. The lower level has both indoor and outdoor dining and looks over the Mandalay Bay pool.

Chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, (the "Too Hot Tamales" from Food Network) started this restaurant, and it's definitely not your standard Mexican food. The menu has a lot of really creative items on it, including green corn tamales, plantain empanadas, and Pescado Veracruzano (halibut with caramelized onions, jalapeno, green olives and a bit of oregano).

Favorite Dish: I had the turkey tostada, which was absolutely delicious! It's also a very large dish, so make sure you're hungry. I also recommend the chicken quesadillas. If you're in the mood for a drink, you can't go wrong with any of the many margaritas they have on the menu. However, at $8-10 each, you may want to stick with a Corona ($5).

  • Restaurant Name: Voodoo Cafe

Voodoo Cafe is a totally unique restaurant, located on the 51st floor of the Rio Hotel and Casino. Featuring amazing views of the Strip and the Las Vegas area, the restaurant serves up Creole specialties in a brightly colored, voodoo-inspired environment. After dinner, you can have your tarot cards read by a psychic near the restaurant entrance, or you can move upstairs to Voodoo Lounge and enjoy the nightlife.

The food here is expensive, but the menu is creative and inspired. If you're looking for something different, this is the place! You'll see items on the menu like "Witch Doctor Sampler," "Hellfire Hot Wings," "Chicken Somestreetinneworleans" and "Bewitching Atlantic Salmon." Everything I ate was absolutely delicious and the service was very gracious.

There is a large balcony off of the restaurant that has incredible views. Be sure to bring your camera and snap a few photos after dinner.

Business casual attire is required (no jeans, hats, etc..).

Favorite Dish: I highly recommend the following menu items:

Jinx Be Gone Mixed Salad (served with a spicy orange vinagrette)

    Mystic Crab and Artichoke Dip

    Black Magic Ahi Tuna

    Stuffed Blue Crabs Gratin

Everyone in our party who had steak said it was just perfect. Also, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!! The desserts here are amazing. I recommend the Bananas Foster dish, served tableside with a shot of flaming liquor. It's quite a sight!

You can see the entire menu here:

Your tour through Las Vegas was great. I remember the first time I visited the Forum Shops; I was totally dazzled and couldn't find my way out for hours.
