The most-visited Hawaiian island It is believed that the Hawaiian islands were inhabited as long as 1000 years ago. The first European to visit the islands was James Cook, who arrived in 1778. Over the years, more Europeans arrived and Hawaii became the 50th state of the USA in 1959. Oahu is the capital of the Hawaiian islands and the most visited (and most populated) of its islands. Honolulu has become a large and active city, complete with skyscrapers and some of the crime problems that plague other cities. Still, this is a wonderful place to visit and experience.
Most who arrive in Oahu are eager to see the world-famous Waikiki Beach. It is a beautiful sight! Personally, I found that some of the most interesting and attractive things about Oahu were nowhere near Waikiki: The North Shore, the windward side of Oahu. These are really worth experiencing! Enjoy your visit to Oahu. |
| | Oahu's beaches are legendary. Be sure to make time to watch the sun set off of Waikiki Beach while you're on the island. |

| | Be sure to get off the beaten path on Oahu. Get out of Honolulu and explore the rest of the island! It's a gorgeous place. |
