Chateau de Versailles | The entry courtyard at Versailles |
Versailles is one of the most popular stops for visitors to Paris. Home to Chateau de Versailles, the town of Versailles is a must-see for those who are interested in French history.
Versailles is located about ten miles southwest of Paris. With a permanent population of around 100,00 people, the town attracts about 30,000 tourists a day, most of whom flock directly to the Chateau. If you have time to spare, you'll find that the city has more to offer than just the Chateau. There are other museums and many restaurants. However, the highlight remains Chateau de Versailles, a massive palace built by the Sun King, Louis XIV. |
