Bangkok - a fairy tale

by tashka - last update: Dec 8, 2003

I found the way to a fairy tale!

Bangkok, the Grand Palace
When I was a kid, I dreamed of getting inside fairy tales, so that I could walk in magic forests and see wonderful animals... I even wanted to invent some kind of an elevator where I could push a button and it would take me to a fairy tale I wanted to get to at the moment.
And only 25 years later I discovered, that I need not an elevator, but a plane, that takes me to a magic place called Bangkok!

At first it's just a big city, and then you turn a corner and suddenly you are browsing the magic forests of your childhood...

Guys, you can say I don't understand the idea of Buddhism, and, I must confess, I know very little about it, but I know one thing, I felt so happy in Buddhist temples of Bangkok! I don't belong to this religion, but it took me back to my childhood and filled me me with delight I couldn't express.
Buddha

Buddha

You see Buddha everywhere. What I liked most about Buddha is that he is smiling! He's never gloomy, life is beautiful!

I also liked the tradition to clothe Buddha. It seemed so unusual to me, I liked the idea, it gives more life to statues!
Bangkok, night

Big City...

And still Bangkok is an enormous metropolis with cars rushing, with huge billboards and skyscrapers.

This is already a modern tale, where you feel like a city Mawgly lost in a stone jungle...

But it's impressive!
