Train journey...

By train Trains Review

Trains station is clean and safe and signs are written in both Lithuanian and English.
The baggage room (open 24 hours) is located in the basement, where you'll find a convenient currency exchange and small grocery.

Avoid taxis: trolleys No 2, 5 or 7, which can be caught from the bus stop on the right as you exit the station, will take you into the city centre for much less. Bus and trolley tickets can be purchased at the kiosk in the main hall.

By car Driving a car Review

Arriving in Lithuania by car is a very simple matter when coming from Latvia. The Polish-Lithuanian border crossings have longer lines and customs officials who take their work very seriously. As for Belarus and Russia, these crossings aren't much fun to start with. It can take you a long time to wait.

By bus - Vilnius
By bus Buses Review

The bus terminal is opposite the train station on the left side. For late-night travellers, note there is a 24-hour currency exchange located at the circle between the train and bus stations. The sign outside reads Valiutos Keitykla.
To get to the centre: read the tip "By train" at my Vilnius' page.

By plane - Vilnius
By plane Aeroplanes Review

The baggage claim is fairly quickly.
Once through, immediately check out the Tourist Information Centre, located on the right side of the arrival hall. Here you can get travel insurance and also to buy maps of Lithuania.

Getting to town. Any taxi at the airport will charge an outrageous fare for the 5 km journey to the centre (even 10 dollars is too much!). Ask someone at the information booth in the arrival hall to phone for one. Otherwise take the bus (tickets available from the driver for about 70 ct or 1 Litas sorry, can't remember now ). The No2 goes by Lukiskiu sq. to Vilnius' main street, Gedimino.
