This is not tolerated at all. Mostly during the Christmas season, but also at anytime of the year when bars close at 2 am there are "ride" spot checks. Drivers get stopped by police for 'spot checks'. Drivers may be asked to provide a breath test to check alcohol levels. If it is high one may be ticketed, license suspended, car impounded, and/or taken into custody. It is against the law to refuse the test. Groups of people partying will select a person to be "the designated driver" who will be the person to abstain from drinking thus one is able to drive everyone home safely. Otherwise people pile into a taxi to get home safe.

The community is found at Wellsley subway station. There is a main stream theatre just west of College station which usually has a LBYT themed movie or two. Church st. has many restuarants, bars, clubs, and the 519 community centre which serves mostly queers, homeless men, and has a heart for the james town community children. Buddies in bad times theatre is a hit. So is fem cab, in march, put on by nightwood theatre. Check out Siren or extra, both free. For literature there is 'this ain't the rosedale library', a bookstore, or for an actual library..the yorkville branch close to the Metro Refrence Library. There is a metro community church, pride celebrations in June, the omega centre for spirtuality... and lots more. Check out extra for community and events listings.
