  • traffic jam- Boston

  • Boston is known for it's terrible traffic. The Big Dig project has just been completed, but I still think the traffic sucks, even for someone who grew up there, it is difficult to find your way around. There is constant construction, and for some reason, the highway commision doesn't see the need for road signs. When I went back home in December, the new roads had been opened. No signs directing me where to go, and when I asked at a toll booth, I received questionable directions at best. My hometown is just 12 miles from the city, yet it frequently takes me 45 minutes to get there.

Dealing with locals: watch your mouth
  • Tip Rating:
  • NEVER ask a Bostonian to say "park the car at Harvard yard" you will quickly find yourself either:
    a) alone
    b) drenched in beer
    c) ridiculed by an entire bar
    d) all of the above

    Parking & Driving: Homeless
  • Tip Rating:
  • In the rare event you find on street parking in Boston, you will often be greeted by a homeless person who holds your door open and offers to watch your car. GIVE HIM A DOLLAR and thank him with a smile! First of all, there is a good chance he will actually watch your car. Second, if you ignore him, you will find a long scratch on your car when you return.

    Weather: black ice

  • Boston Weather
  • pretty, but dangerous.

  • In the colder weather the roads sometimes appear safe to the eye, but in fact have a thin coating of ice which can cause you to lose control of your car. Leave plenty of room between vehicles and take turns slower than usual. If you do skid, steer into the direction of the skid and pump your brakes and hope for the best. Do not slam on your brakes.

Rest is the order of the day here too. Too bad there's no football. Well, real football anyway.
