Peru and the Inca Trail! | Women of the Sacred Valley, Photo by Kym |
I wrote this e-mail just hours after completing the Inca Trail:
Greetings from Agua Caliente: We did it....we canīt believe it, but we are here safe and sound and it was a beautiful, uncomfortable, brutal, awe inspiring, exciting, nerve racking, steep, up, down, around, leg jarring, toe jamming, crazy, pretty, lush, tropical, tiring and wonderful adventure.....it was the hardest physical and mental challenge we have ever had, but in the end we loved it and we are so happy that we did it...it was VERY difficult, but at the end VERY rewarding....it was a lot harder then we thought, with the most immense hills, steps, downward steep angles and never ending trails, every minute you had to convince yourself that you were going to make it! it was uncomfortable, but it really was beautiful and in the end we are both so happy we completed this journey of a lifetime...would we do it again....NO! it was something I would only do once....but, man what a great feeling on the last day, sweaty, tired, hungry and wiped out, as you climb one more steep up hill battle, up 53 more stairs after thousands climbed before and there you come upon the cloud covered oasis of Machu Picchu waiting for you...and then as the clouds part and you stare in awe at this Incan wonder that you spent hours, days and nights getting to....we made it and we are safe and sound, without a single injury or sickness...although VERY sore muscles and complete tiredness....and great weather the whole way! It rained at night and was beautiful in the day, not too hot or cold....the second day was brutal like everyone said, and we did freeze our asses of that night, I would actually say that all the days were equally as hard and challenging, but to be sitting here now, in the little tourist town of Aguas Caliente, drinking my water, with my greasy hair and sweaty body..after not showering for 4 days....I did feel the wonder and awe of the Incas and the winding trail that we followed.....so, thatīs the wrap up for now...we are alive, we are well...and we are tired as hell! So, we stay here for lunch, then take a 4 hour train ride back to Cusco for the night...then back to Lima and then home again. |
