JD's Home country

One of the world's greatest countries

As most of you probably already know, England is one of the countries that make up the "United Kingdom", and is actually alot bigger than alot of non-UK residents I've talked to online over the years give it credit for after they've seen it on the map (e.g. hopping over from the East Coast of the country where I live over to Manchester or Liverpool isn't as easy as it looks on the map if you've never been here before).

It also tends to amaze people with the difference in people's accents in such a short distance (e.g. Yorkshire, Brummie/Birmingham, Geordie, Cockney, etc).

And despite being small, it's always managed to punch above it's weight on the world stage (e.g. in World War2, etc) and responsible for alot of inventions we take for grant... apart from the English language, we also came up with The Police force, The Internet, The jet engine, The lawnmower, The Cat flap, The Fire Extinguisher, The steam engine, The sandwich, the Lightbulb, and quite alot of other things

So much to see, and the weather ain't THAT bad

England may be small, but there's so much to see & do here you'd be lucky to achieve it in a lifetime.... there's historic buildings & monuments, theme parks, beaches, forests & woodlands, lakes, rivers, expansive moorlands, villages, towns & cities.

Landscape's range from the dull & flat midlands, to stunning mountain ranges up further up north (e.g. Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria & the Lake District)... large waterways (e.g. The Norfolk Broads, Lake District + the Canal network).... to Towns & Cities, that range from beautiful traditional architecture (e.g. York, Whitby, etc).... to regenerating industrial areas (e.g. Middlesbrough) and others with 1950's - 1970's architecture that make you wonder what on earth they were thinking back then..... to some of the world's most modern building's (e.g. Millenium dome, canary wharfe tower, etc).

The weather isn't as bad as some jokes make out, ok it does rain sometimes but we also get quite a few good days, and temperates aren't too bad compared to other places in the world.... around -5C (23F) to +18C (65F) in Winter, through to around 75-100F (23C - 37C) in Summer.
Though at certain times of the year it can be rather deceptive... like you look out the window, and it looks as bright & sunny as if you're in somewhere like Florida, or a tropical paradise like Bora Bora....... but soon as you step out there's a freezing cold wind.

England is still probably the best place to come for those wanting a more genteel & stable introduction to foreign travel.
