Whitby - the Intro Whitby is located on the east coast of England, roughly between Middlesbrough & Scarborough. It's famous for Captain Cook, the Scoresby family (owned a whaling fleet, invented the crow's next look-out), Dracula, Jet Jewellery (as worn by Queen Victoria) & Sea Fishing from Charter boats (numerous records caught over the years, including an 851lb Tuna back in the 1930's + cod over 50lb's)....... oh yeah, and then there is the fish&chip shops (including the Magpie cafe). Apparently the town has become a favourite holiday spot for Hollywood movie star Gwyneth Paltrow, and I read something a couple years back about Australian supermodel Elle McPherson buying hunting rights on the nearby Mulgrave Estate. Also on the edge of town is the site where the first german aircraft we shot down in World War2 landed |
| nearby Goathland aka "Aidensfield" / "Hogsmeade" |
TV & Movies The town & surrounding area has featured in various TV shows & movies over the years, including... TV Shows: "Heartbeat", "BBC Local Heroes", "Rhodes around Britain", "Last of the Summer Wine (c.1970's?)", "BBC Songs of Praise", "Blue Peter", "Rick Stein's Food Heroes", "Ken Hom's Hot Wok" + may more I can't think of right now. Movies filmed round these parts include: "HARRY POTTER", "Possession" (starred Gwyneth Paltrow) & a few others I can't remember off the top of my head right now. They've recently (May 2008) been filming parts of some new American TV series called "Robinson Crusoe" for NBC in Whitby + other parts of Yorkshire. |

UK's BEST RESORT!!!!! Apparently Whitby has recently been chosen by WHICH? Magazine (a publication by the "Consumers Association") as Britain's best Resort, so there! |
