Esslingen - my old hometown - is one of the oldest cities in Germany . The first document found referring to Esslingen has been written in 777 a.C. In the Middle Ages Esslingen became a "Freie Reichsstadt" (Free Imperial City) which meant that it was governed directly by the emperor of the "Holy Roman Empire of German Nation". Today Esslingen counts more than 90,000 inhabitants and is a center of industry, trade and administration. It is the capital of Esslingen county (300,000 inhabitants) and the home of world wide operating companies . |
