The CN Tower is the tallest building in the world at a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft). It is also, not surprisingly, Canada's most recognizable icon (along with perhaps Niagara Falls). It was built in 1976 after a construction boom in downtown Toronto in the 60's began to transform Toronto's once low building skyline into one consisting of many skyscrapers. The new skyscrapers caused serious communications problems which were solved by the CN Tower. As the CN Tower website claims, people in Toronto now enjoy some of the clearest reception in North America.
The view from the tower on all sides is breath-taking. This photo was taken from the main outdoor viewing deck (342m) because the Sky Pod (World's Highest Public Observation Deck at 447m) was closed due to high winds.
