Week # 1 of an Amazing Honeymoon - Moorea

by Canadian_Traveler - last update: Aug 6, 2004

Arriving in Tahiti - June 27, 2004

Choosing a Destination

After coming up with so many honeymoon ideas we finally decided (finding a great deal helped) on Moorea and New Zealand. We had considered Thailand and South Africa as well. I'm glad we made this decision and I'm sure one day we'll visit the others (I hope).
We were looking for a week of lazy beach bathing and warm waters and then a week of adventure...boy, did we make the right decision!
Easy Morning View

The Overwater Bungalow

We stayed at the Sofitel Ia Ora in an over water bungalow. It was the bungalow furthest into the water and was simply amazing. It's obnoxiously expensive but we got an upgrade so it didn't hurt so much. We woke up every morning at about 6:00 to watch the sun rise with Tahiti in the back drop. It was easy to want to stay in our room the entire week...and a couple days we did.
We bought a few groceries from the local store and mixed our own drinks in the room. You can't find a better patio bar than this!

Leaving the Bungalow

We did manage to leave the bunglaow this day and headed out for a Circle Island Tour...a very good day! We made many stops including Cook's Bay, Belvedere Look-out, Tiki Village / black pearl farm, a pineapple plantation and an ancient mountain temple. We had a great tour guide and learned a lot about this small island and the origins of many of the Tahitian names. A very worthwhile excursion.

What an ideal location for a honeymoon! Just beautiful. We stopped at the Sofitel for a day of snorkeling while on a cruise. The bungalows looked awesome!
