Though virtually everyone comes here to see the volcano light up the sky at night, many people leave without ever having caught a glimpse. We were lucky enough over our 2 and 1/2 days to have seen it for about 10 minutes during daylight. No awesome colours, no fireworks - but it's still quite a sight and the Arenal area was definitely worth the visit nonetheless. Don't be disappointed if you don't get to see it, luckily there are some great pictures out there from people that have. :)
Arenal was the first stop on our two week trip to Costa Rica. One thing you'll discover quickly is that the people of Costa Rica are easily some of the friendliest people you'll meet anywhere. During our travels through Costa Rica, Ticos would ask us where we'd been. What I found most amusing was, pretty much every time we said we'd been to Arenal, they'd ask, "Did you get lucky?"
Well, I'll only tell about the volcano 'lucky' ;). Though the definition of 'lucky' might be actually seeing Arenal active at night, I like to think we got 'lucky' for about 10 minutes and really the entire time... It definitely made for good conversation with the various people we met during our awesome two weeks in Costa Rica. |
