Eiffel Tower: The details of the Eiffel Tower
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Of course, if you visit Paris you will definitely make your way to the Eiffel Tower. The view down below is amazing but if you're on the 1st or 2nd level....don't forget to look up...it's quite spectacular as well.

Cemeteries: The grandest address in Paris!
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Pere-Lachaise cemetary is THE place to be buried but it's also a wonderful place to visit. You'll find the tombs of many famous people including Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Frederic Chopin, and Jim Morrison. It's very large (110 acres) but you can go through it quickly or spend a few hours there. We ran into (or rather, he seeked us out), an unofficial tour guide whose name I can not recall. He was great (of course, he'll expect to be paid when you leave). Even with a map some of the tombs can be difficult to find (i.e. Jim Morrison). If you run into him, let him show you around...he knows his way around and is very knowledgable. You'll love his telling of the story of Victor Noir!!!

    Cemeteries: A GREAT man...Victor Noir!
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a must-see tomb, especially if you happen to have the "unofficial" Pere-Lachaise tour guide taking you around. Victor Noir is apparently famous for having an erection 2 days after he died (or 'sex erection' as our guide told us). His tomb is one of the most frequently visited in the entire cemetary. Rubbing his *** is supposed to help women to acheive greater orgasms and also make people more fertile (which is why it's no surprise how worn that area is!).

Invalides: Musee de l'Armee (at Napolean's Tomb)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Paris Invalides
  • Various propaganda posters

  • I wasn't too excited to visit a military museum but it turned out to be a very interesting way to spend the afternoon. There's a large collection of weapons, uniforms, equipment and most interesting for me, various propaganda posters. The posters are mostly from World War II and come from many different countries, including Nazi Germany, Japan, and the U.S. You can follow the details of World War II by reading the placards posted along your walk through the museum. I was surprised to have spent 4 hours there.

Louvre: Louvre: La Grande Galerie - Italian Paintings
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Grande Galerie contains a collection of 13th-15th century (Room 5) and 16th-17th century (Room 11) Italian paintings.

This long hall /gallery was built between 1595 and 1610 and originally connected the Louvre to the palais des Tuileries. It;s an interesting view from outside the museum as well.

As you 1st enter the gallery you'll notice it's huge and houses a lot of paintings...you should also notice that it also houses a lot of seats. Be sure to grab a quick rest and rub your feet before you continue...you'll need it!

always nice to see different angles on this favorite ET. I have one just like it really, but I just flipped through all my current Paris vt photos and among the zillion Tower shots, it's not there! ;-O now you remind me to go dig it up...
