Rabaul was such an interesting place to visit. It had signs of a paradise once but now long gone it was more like what should have been a ghost town, yet people still struggled to survive. Well worth the visit for the WW2 history, the diving and to see how a forgotten place still struggles on with life.

It was great to see your photos of Rabaul as it appears now. At the same time, I was saddened to see the volcanic ash spread everywhere - it was such a lush tropical place when I visited for work between 1979-82. Excellent pics of your hitch-hiking trip!
