The Rat Pack - Las Vegas

The Rat Pack

The Rat Pack: The Rat Pack - show at the Plaza

I love the Rat Pack, and was thrilled to discover a Vegas tribute show called "The Rat Pack is Back" was playing at the Copa Room in the Plaza Hotel & Casino. The Plaza is located downtown, around a 15 minute taxi ride from centre Strip.

The Rat Pack made Vegas their home in the 50's, playing and partying at the (now demolished) Sands Hotel. This version of the original show includes Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Joey Bishop. Well, not them, but some excellent impersonators. The guy who played Frank Sinatra was particularly good and had the voice and style near perfect.

We went to see the 10pm show on a Saturday night. The Copa Room was a great, small venue with its old Vegas style. We were very comfortable sitting in our red-velvet booth, sipping our drinks and (quietly) singing along. Highly recommended if you love this style of music.

Fontana Bar view - Las Vegas

Fontana Bar view

Fontana Bar: Fontana Bar in the Bellagio - fountain views

Fontana Bar is located lakeside in the Bellagio, accessed via the casino. There is a large bar area inside, with a stage and dance floor, and a terrace that looks over the lake and Strip. We visited early one evening and of course headed straight for the terrace, and a prime fountain watching position.

There was a band playing inside, and speakers outside so we could still enjoy the music. Every now and then the bands music would be replaced by the various backing soundtracks for the dancing fountains, and we would enjoy the eruptions from our seat.

We ordered mojitos (really good!) and martinis and felt pretty content. I can highly recommend the combination of a terrace table, a cocktail or two and watching the colours of the Strip change and those fountains dance.
