Seductive San Francisco

by sue_stone - last update: Feb 8, 2009

Downtown San Francisco
We spent four nights in San Francisco and it was as fabulous as I had hoped. The type of city I could live in - beautiful scenery, interesting architecture, quirky transport options, great restaurants, and steep hills to climb helping to work off the over-indulging in said great restaurants.

We spent time exploring the various districts, really enjoying the hillier parts and the lovely views over the bay. We caught plenty of cable cars up and down hills, and loved the restored streetcars that trundled along the less-hilly bits.

Driving across the Golden Gate Bridge was fabulous, as the fog wafted over. Walking down crooked Lombard Street was like something off TV. Very tasty Mexican food, tasty Dim Sum. Seeing old ladies in Chinatown hand-making fortune cookies.

Loved the smelly, noisy sea lions at Pier 39, the great farmers market on a Saturday morning where half the city converges for breakfast, and were thrilled to discovered old favourite arcade games at the bizarre Mechanical Museum. Oh, and a visit to Alcatraz was really really interesting.

'crookedest' is definately a word in my dictionary ;) We are actively planning for SF now, will give your hotel some thought - it seems it was very handy to get to Fishermans Wharf? Near some lovely areas too.

Have been to SF about 20 years ago and was shown around by relatives. SF is a very good looking town. Love the sea lions.

"Master! Sue has been in the U.S. again!" "Odd, my young padawan, that I did not feel her presence in the Force." How was the S.F. weather? Glad you guys had a good time! Next time, honk as you fly over :)

No fabulous meals? How disappointing! I'm way overdue for a visit, I haven't been in well over 20 years!!!
