Kite surfers in grey Felixstowe
A grey summer's afternoon found us taking a walk by the sea in Felixstowe, 12 miles southeast of Ipswich. We were taken there by friends who live in Ipswich, as they thought we would enjoy some fresh air, and also the spectacle of their little dog swimming in the choppy water.

Felixstowe is home to a uncomfortable looking beach and a harbour where you can catch a ferry across the inlet to the grand Bawdsey Manor.

From here you can also see the Principality of Sealand - it looks a bit like an off-shore oil rig - on the horizon. Very cool!

Dotted along the coast you will see a couple of the Martello Towers which were built in the early 1800's to help protect against the threat of an invasion by Napoleon.

We had a nice stroll along the coast, threw a stick into the water for the dog to fetch, watched the kite surfers (how strong must their arms be!), and ate an ice cream (well, we were at the seaside!).

After our walk we popped into an ancient pub for a beer.

Sounds a nice old pub, and perversely I rather like beach walks in grey weather ;)
