Located off the coast of a Cornish town called Marazion, St Michael's Mount is an abbey that sits on a craggy island. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway, though this is only useable at low tide. When the tide is in, a ferry takes visitors to and from the island.
The abbey has connections with Mont St Michel, in Normandy (France), which I have visited and found very impressive.
The weather was terrible when we attempted to visit St Michael's Mount, so we decided against going across to the island and just briefly admired it from the shore. |

HORSCHECK Tue Jun 9, 2009 22:08 UTC Lovely little page about St. Michael's Mount. I once walked from Penzance to Marazion, from where I could even walk to St. Michael's Mount due to low tide. After a short rest on the island I walked back to the mainland. So no boat needed for me. |
