Whitstable is a small town on the coast of Kent. It is famous for its oysters and is a great place to buy fresh seafood.
The main streets are lined with some interesting shops and an intriguing mix of architecture. Take time for a browse, pop into the old fashioned sweet shop for a bag of mixed lollies, and explore some of the narrow alley ways.
A wander along Whitstable harbour is interesting. This is a working harbour so is not 'pretty' but worth a look. Pass the crates of oyster shells and head to the Fish Market for lunch or to buy some fresh seafood to take home for dinner.
Take a drive up the hill to Tankerton on Sea, with its pebble beach and colourful beach huts, and see if you can spot the off-shore wind farm.
If you are after an excellent culinary experience, head to the very unassuming looking Michelin starred pub, The Sportsman, which is located a couple of miles outside of Whitstable. We had an amazing, and very reasonably prices lunch there one Friday. More details
