Picture this...winter in London...grey...miserable. We needed a weekend away somewhere a little brighter...somewhere south.
So, a long weekend to Lisbon it was!
The capital of Portugal, Lisbon has been on our wish-list for a while now. Although I had always pictured visiting there in one of the warmer months, it turned out to be a perfect place for a winter break. It was sunny for most of the time...except for a few hours of heavy rain to dampen our feet but not our spirits!
We really loved Lisbon. Its quirky elevadors and trams. The gorgeous tile covered buildings. Beautiful squares, narrow steep alleys. Delicious custard tarts!
So many surprises were in store for us - the bridge that looks just like the 'Golden Gate' bridge; the Monumento Cristo Rei, just like the one in Brazil; the long long long bridge; oh, and did I mention the custard tarts! |

Cobbett Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:58 UTC That place is a trap of mediocre food. Beware of what they put on your table, especially if you have not ordered it. Other restaurants try the butter and cheese trick. At Solmar, they tried to charge me 38 euros worth of seafood that I did not ordered, | ianandjill Sat Oct 11, 2008 09:44 UTC If coming in to Lisbon from Cascais/Estoril by rail (CP) the rai/bus travel card does NOT include city centre travel ontram/bus/elevadors/metro Ian Croft | easterntrekker Fri Oct 3, 2008 11:58 UTC I enjoyed my visit to your pages.
