Albergo Garisenda - doesn't get more central and other Bologna, Italy Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

Albergo Garisenda is a 2 star hotel located in the heart of Bologna. This small hotel has just 7 rooms (3 with bathrooms), but its location is second to none.

It is located just across the road from the Due Torri (Two Towers), and only a couple of hundred metres from the lovely Piazza Maggiore. When we stayed (back in Sep 2002) the owners were quite friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

Unique Qualities: Our room was fairly basic, but clean and spacious. It looked out into a central courtyard which was nice and quiet. I know some of the other rooms look over the main street and are much noisier. We had to use the bathrooms in the hall, but with four to choose from (between 4 rooms) there was never any problem.

The hotel has a small bar where breakfast is served. From memory our breakfast was disappointing even for the usual Italian standard.

If you are on a budget then I highly recommend Albergo Garisenda - the location is ideal!

Hotel Paradise is a small, 3 star hotel, centrally located to the main Bologna attractions. We stayed here for 1 night in Sep 2006 and enjoyed our stay. I chose this hotel as it was a very good price and located only 5-10 minutes walk from the city's main square.

There are 18 rooms, which have been re-decorated fairly recently by the look of it, and all have private bathrooms. The staff were helpful, offering us a map and information about the surrounding area.

Unique Qualities: Our room was in very good condition and nice and clean. It had a large bed, mini-bar, TV, air conditioning and the all important hair dryer. The hotel was close to many good dining options, including one of the best gelato shops in town.

We enjoyed our stay here, and would stay again next time we are in Bologna. The room cost 75 euro, which included breakfast.

Zanhotel Regina is a 3 star Hotel located on Via dell'Independenza, approximately halfway between the train station and Piazza Maggiore. From the outside it looks quite posh, and has a 'British' feel about it.

The hotel has 61 rooms, a large breakfast room, and a big outside terrace and bar serving snacks (open to the public as well). Service was nothing special, but adequate.

Unique Qualities: Our room was on the 3rd floor, and looked over the large Piazza VIII Agosto. There was a mini-bar, TV, Air Conditioning and a hair dryer. It was a decent sized room, but the décor was a bit dated. I really didn't like the bathroom - the toilet was squashed in the corner and the shower was terrible....and dirty.

Breakfast was buffet style and there was quite a good selection of pastries and cakes....which we may have sampled after something healthy to start.

Our room was 89 euro including breakfast. It was an ok place to stay for a night, but won't be rushing back - there are too many other options near by.
