We travelled to Johannesburg in November 2007 specifically to attend a friends wedding. We stayed in the eastern suburb of Edenvale, which is 10-15 minutes drive from the airport. We didn't venture into central Jo'burg at all, and the only touristy thing we did was visit the Lion Park.
First impressions of Jo'burg were not favourable. After the usual issue at the airport with people wanting to be paid to direct us to the car hire desk, we arrived at our B&B where the owners dog promptly bit Alex on the hand. At least a nice medical centre was close by and, tetanus shot and antibiotics later, we were all set :-/
We did manage to spend some quality time with our friends and their families, not to mention eat some decent food, and drink some very tasty wine - so all was not lost!

What a awesome page and I enjoyed the tour. California has a Johannesburg, but no lions here:) Just old miners! Lovely page!
I stayed in Edenvale also. I went to the Greenstone shopping mall (love it) several times and missed that Mozart ice cream(:
As long as you keep it to yourself I will share this with you. God made ice cream as a reward t Himself. Mankind stole the secret from coyote, who got it from bear. Eating ice cream, therefore, adds days to your life.
Yes, Ocean Basket is very good value for money. I am sorry you had to experience some of the not so good acommodations, as SA has excellent hotels,
Interesting tips- beautiful lion shots-and at least we can get a laugh at some things that were a real pain at the time!
Very useful info....we are going to Johannesburg in April...
Cute lion pics but the accomodations aren't too impressing! Hope you didn't put on too much weight with all those t-bones and ice creams ;)
Two visits to Kruger and I didn't see one lion. I should have visited that lion park! Wonderful photos. leyle
Fabulous animal tips. Interesting warning about the spare tyre cover. The lion cubs are indeed very cute. Lions are the best anyway, don't you think so. *winkygrin*
No comment on the IC, but good job you didn't have the T-bone. Another excellent page from such a short visit.
