Basma Hotel Aswan and other Aswan, Egypt Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

The Basma Hotel is located about 10 minutes drive from the train station, on top of a hill, offering fabulous view over the city and the Nile.

It is a 4 star hotel, which had all the mod cons. Our room was a little tired looking, but more than adequate. There is a large pool, restaurant and bar. It was well located to explore the town.

Unique Qualities: We stayed here for only one night, and the highlight of our stay was definitely the view from parts of the hotel (not from our room unfortunately) which looked over the Nile and the distant desert.

Unfortunately we didn't stay at the Old Cataract Hotel, but I wanted to mention it here as it is an Aswan institution.

It sit on a cliff looking over the Nile, and has been in operation since 1899.

Although always the toast of Aswan, it was made even more famous by its inclusion in the 1978 Agatha Christie movie "Death on the Nile".

Unique Qualities: The main draw card for me would have to be its fabulous location. Would love to have a drink in the bar and watch the sunset.
