Besides the lovely medieval castle, Fougeres is also home to two large churches.
Eglise St-Leonard sits up on a hill, looking over the medieval castle and lower town. The church went through lots of modifications between the 12th & 17th centuries, with further enlargements during the 19th century.
It has a rose window over the entrance door which is a copy of the one found in Eglise St-Chapelle in Paris. We stuck our head in for a look around before heading down to the castle.
Located in the lower town, not far from the castle is Eglise St-Sulpice. The church is not as impressive looking as the Eglise St-Leonard, but does have a great spire. The church was constructed between the 13th & 18th centuries. Inside there is some lovely wooden panelling and some magnificent granite reredoses.
You get a good view over Eglise St-Sulpice from the castle walls.
