In Dec 2007 we spent 5 nights in Dubai, flying back into London on Christmas morning. Dubai had been on the wish list for a while, and December is a great time to visit - top temperatures between 23-27 degrees celcius (as opposed to 45+ in summer) make a nice change from wintery London, and at around 7 hours, the flight is easy. We really loved Dubai. The city is growing at a phenomenal rate - the amount of construction happening is amazing! You have never seen so many skyscrapers being built simultaneously, and so many cranes. At the centre of it all they are building what will be the tallest building in the world, reported to peak at around 810 metres on completion. Not only modern skyscrapers, but whole suburbs are rising out of the dessert. Dubai is somewhere we will definitely return, and I am sure we will be astounded by the changes. Next time we would love to take a helicopter flight and view the city from above - especially the incredible developments being built offshore - 'The World' and 'The Palm' (there are three of the latter planned). Photo highlights can also be viewed on Flickr. Full trip report here. |
