Restaurant Name: La Houblonniere
We had a fabulous dinner at La Houblonniere. It is a centrally located Bistro, in Lille's main square, Place General de Gaulle. There is seating out in the square, and two levels of seating inside. When we arrived the weather was looking ominous, so we chose to sit inside the cosy restaurant. Service was friendly and food tasty.
Favorite Dish: We had Steak Frites and also a local specialty - a kind of beef stew - delicious! Also managed to squeeze in an excellent Creme Brulee. And all washed down with a tasty Bordeaux!!

Restaurant Name: Aux Moules
On our weekend to Lille, we arrived on Friday night, right at dinner time, and really wanted to relax and soak up the feel of the city. It was a balmy evening, so alfresco dining was a must, and we came across a really busy restaurant - Aux Moules. They managed to squeeze us in, at one of the outdoor tables, and with a Leffe beer in hand, we sat back and enjoyed.
Favorite Dish: We ate - of course - moules & frites! A huge casserole pot full of delicious mussels and tasty chips. And what better to wash it all down with but a pint or two of beer. : ))

Restaurant Name: Chez Armand
Looking for an easy option for lunch, we decided to stop off at Chez Armand, a large Italian restaurant that we had noticed the previous night. It had plenty of outdoor seating, was busy, and the food looked good. It was also a great place to do some people watching!
Favorite Dish: We had pizza, which had a good thin crust and generous toppings. Not the best ever pizza, but enjoyable. Seeing as we were having pizza, a bottle of Chianti seemed the natural accompaniment!!

Restaurant Name: Meert Patisserie and Tea Room
The Meert Patisserie and Tea Room is a haven for all those sweet-toothed people out there. It is a famous Patisserie and chocolate shop, with a quaint tea room at the back, which is just as you imagine a french tea room should be!
Favorite Dish: We couldn't resist stopping here for a pot of tea and an eclair - delicious!

Restaurant Name: Le Pain Quotidien
Le Pain Quotidien is a cafe/bakery located in Place Rihour, just near the pyramid fountain. It sells a selection of bread and delicious cakes and pastries to take home with you. Alternatively, take a seat inside or out and enjoy an 8 course Brunch, or just a coffee and naughty treat.
Favorite Dish: We stopped in here for a coffee and I had a delicious Tarte Citron - tres bon!

Who doesn't love ice cream!! After a delicious meal what better way to end the evening, but with a couple of scoops of creamy Haagen-Daz!! We stopped off at the Haagen-Daz cafe for a coffee and some ice cream.
Favorite Dish: Favourite flavours include: Pralines & Cream, Macadamia Brittle, Dolce con Leche

I'm curious about Lille, because I might have occasion to go there later this year. It certainly looks GRAND from your photos. I must have gone through there on the train, I suppose, (Eurostar from Brussels to London) but never got off. |
