| Half-timbered house in Rouen |
Rouen's medieval centre is filled with lofty spires and half-timbered houses. Located along the Seine River and home to numerous churches and impressive buildings, it is one of the oldest towns in Normandy, dating back to 50BC.
Rouen is the place where Joan of Arc was convicted and burnt at the stake in 1431.
It is an interesting place to spend a day or two soaking up the history and eating at some of the great restaurants on the lovely place du Vieux Marche. |

hquittner Sat Jan 26, 2008 22:26 UTC We stayed at the Morand in 1982, Did not know it still existed as is. Just recommended it too | Jim_Eliason Tue May 1, 2007 14:40 UTC Nice tips! | tiabunna Thu Mar 29, 2007 13:11 UTC Very enjoyable Sue, it took me back to our visit some years back. When we visited Notre Dame, a very mediocre rock band was performing outside - very loudly! Your page has confirmed that, one day, we must get back when that band isn't there. | roamer61 Mon Dec 11, 2006 16:35 UTC Great page. I love the old half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries (1400 and 1500s). |
