Former Africa Occidental Espanola

Intro

The Western Sahara (formerly Spanish Sahara) is located in the western part of Africa (obviously), in a zone that we can consider tropical and subtropical, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, between Mauritania and Morocco
The tropic of Cancer cuts the territory on Punta de la Sarga, in the Rio de Oro peninsula.
In its coast has a remarkable influence the Gulf Stream, that temperate its climate in the coastline. The Western Sahara has a total surface of 280,000 sq.km and its coast has a length of 1.200 kms.
About its orography, the most important peak is Adrar-Sutuf, located in the Macizo de Amarrasit, rising 435 mts on the sea level.
Close to the Atlantic Ocean, in the northern area of the country, is located El Aaiun, the capital city.
Another important cities are Dakhla, Smara and La Guera.

All the location names that I have written and I will write in this page are the old ones. I do this in this way because is easier for me, and I believe that if you had been there in that times it will help you for remembering. This are the names that we used and as we wrote when this territory was part of Spain, before the Moroccan occupation.
