Aleppo was one of my most favourite cities in Syria. My visit coincided with the muslim celebration of Eid-ul-Adha and I managed to go to morning prayers with the manager of the hotel I was staying at. Being in the middle east at this time of the year was strange as everyone was on holiday and in high spirits. I went for a wander through the market that day and the cobbled alleyways were full of blood from the sheep that had been sacrifised that morning. Children were dressed up in their best clothes playing in the streets with their new Eid presents. |
I'd forgotten I'd be here during a religious festival and it sort of skewed my travel plan because very few buses were running. Instead of taking a direct bus to Amman I had to change in Damascus which isn't the end of the world I guess.
Whilst wandering through the citidel I got chatting to some guys and I managed to make great use of my arabic phrase book. They invisted me to their home where I shared dinner with their family. People here were very freindly. |
