Aden was a British port in colonial times. There is still British influences in the architecture. Overall it was pretty rundown though.

"Often singled out for Kidnapping"? Not true, there have only been a couple incidences. The main one were of a missionary group who had been warned several times to stop trying to convert locals in the North.
