  • Actually, I am not really really impressed by the coliseum although it does provide a good background of the history of ancient Rome.

Around the coliseum, there are also many ruins, many of them undergoing restoration at the time I was there.

And the weather, it is searingly hot and bright. Always remember to come prepared.

  • A good place to go for park lovers. You can hire bikes to cycle around the grounds, feed the birds bread, laze around...

Some of the landmarks plentiful in the grounds include statues, pavillions and fountains.

Piazza di Spagna - Spanish Steps: Work your legs

  • Seems like the entire tourist crowd will flock to Spanish steps. As it was so crowded, all we did was climb up and down the steps for different views, then went shopping at the nearby shops.

Trevi Fountain: Throw a coin into the fountain

  • Another tourist attraction with large crowds. Still, squeeze yourself to the front and throw a coin over your left? shoulder into the fountain. That's supposed to signify that you'll return to Rome in future.

It is also a good place to get respite from the heat and see tourists from all over the world striking all kinds of poses for that memorable snapshot.

    Piazza Venezia - Vittoriano: Piazzas

  • There are numerous piazzas (or squares) in Rome. Chill at a few of them for a feel of local living.

Personally prefer Piazza Navona with its tasty gelato, a cooling fountain and local shops
