Getting There

The best way to get there is via chartered van. You may want to start the hike around 7.30 am or so, if you're catching World's End before the fog comes in.

Enroute to Horton Plains, as we were climbing uphill, there was a scene that captured us. The thick morning fog created an impression of us on top of the clouds. To quote one of my colleagues who saw the photo, it was as if I had attained Nirvana and floating above the clouds...

The entrance fee costs US16.60 or Rs1,560 (expensive, expensive).

World's End

Despite what some guidebooks tell you, the mist comes in unexpectedly at no fixed time. It started rolling in before 915am when we were there and completely fogged out the area within 10 minutes. Even the guide was mildly surprised that it was "earlier than usual".

It's a strange sight. The mist first comes in thinly and then quickly and thickly.

As we made our way to Baker's Fall through the plains, it was as if the mist was playing catch up with us. Somewhat eerie, as there were no other hikers in sight, and the mist just enshrouds you from behind.

Hiking early is good since you get the plains to yourself and enjoy the eerie solitude.

Baker's Fall

You've got to "scramble" down a muddy slope to get to the foot of the waterfall. Hanging on to branches and trunks help.

Getting up is easier but still requires precaution.

I feel it's worth it. Especially if you were the only folks there. The entire fall to yourself - you'd feel like a real adventurer.
