Best of Alaska

by herleyberley - last update: Sep 18, 2003

Seward is by far the best of coastal Alaska. It is a temperate rainforest, so always be prepared, but don't let it deter you. The weather is the reason for the beauty and abundance of wildlife. Spend at least two days, more if you can. There are plenty of B&B's (always cheaper than hotels) and a great hostel (Moby Dick). Go seakayaking, wildlife watching by boat, or hiking to Exit Glacier. Seward is accessible by train, bus or rental car and is about 2.5 hours south of Anchorage.

Pros:"Wildlife, glaciers, cruise tours, outdoor activities"
Cons:"Can be rainy, not a departure point for any other destination"
In A Nutshell:"Make the time to go there, it's worth it!"

Chinook's was indeed a great restuarant with EXCELLENT service! Their frest wild salmon was excellent and a person really needs to save room for their blackberry cobbler.
