Well, my full name is Marcelo Rojas Calderon, i was born and live all my life in La Paz, Bolivia. i think that one of the beautiful activities that i really like to do is meeting with new friends from overseas!!! I think because I am an only child, I prefer to keep in touch with friends who I consider them my real brothers and sisters. in spite of , i am not with them anymore...(sniff) but i really love receiving news from them frecuently. so far my most memorable VT meetings are: Jimmy (Narviking) & his wonderful mum, from Norway, Victoria (Tord), from England, Spela (glorija) & Saso, from Slovenia. and of course with Jeffrey and Kevin from USA, (Arnoud from France and Simen from Norway). Those meetings and other were really nice and i still remember like it happened yesterday. ABOUT FRED SIWAK Friends from virtual Tourist: CAN YOU HELP HIM???: I`m going to tell you little bit about a good friend. His name is Fred Siwak, 52, from Ipswich, USA.
ABOUT HIM: Fred has started a project to get a photo of his art in every country in the world, an idea that stemmed form the increased isolation his progressive disease brought on. After the reality that he would never work again and would forever be confined to a wheelchair with a steady loss of muscle control, he decided to seize the strenght he still had to create art, initially using adaptations to draw with pastels and carve linoleum prints (like "BUTTERFLIES"). Soon this become impossible and he then turned to drawing on the computer by moving the mouse wedged between his hands an using lateral pressure for control. By this method he created over 60 images. Fred?s art has been featured on television, national tours and national and local publications in the United States, the museum of Non - conformism in St. Petersburg and web sites in New Zealand Russia, Kenya, Philippines, United Kingdom, South Korea, Somalia, Angola, Bolivia, Germany, Malaysia and Egypt.
Fred Siwak is a self - taught artist who made his art his vocation after his diagnosis of ALS (a.k.a. MND) a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease, with no known cause or cure, characterized by the rapid, progressive death of motor neurons, nerve cells that feed all the voluntary muscles in the body. Prior to his illness, he explored many art forms including watercolor, pastels, pencil, photography and ceramics, Because his disease has rentered his hands useless, he now creates images on the computer.
Fred works with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the ALS Association in Massachusetts donating art, making appearances and advocating in support of the effort to serve the ALS community.
HELPPlease, if you want to give him a hand send him an e mail at:seaweed@gis.net He is also a VT friend try to look for his nickname, which is PALS "(This project is so important to me. Your cooperation would be immensely appreciated!)". AMIGOS - PALS |
